Children’s Eye Tests
Nurturing Good Vision for Your Child’s Future
Ensuring proper vision plays a vital role in the healthy development of children.
Research indicates that one in five school children has an undetected eye problem, hindering their ability to reach their full potential and enjoy childhood activities to the fullest. With 80% of a child’s learning being visual, it’s crucial to prioritise regular eye examinations for optimal vision.
Children may not realise when their vision is compromised as they assume their sight is normal.
That’s why we strongly advise regular eye examinations for all children from age of 4, at least once a year. By identifying potential issues early on, we can ensure effective treatment and support your child’s visual well-being. We will typically apply drops from age 4 for their first test to ensure the most accurate outcome, this does take longer so many opticians avoid this but we do our best for your child! Once we have strong baseline, drops are not always required. Early correction is important to avoid a lazy eye i.e. the eye is not seeing as it should in the absence of a disease. Some spectacles are short term to allow normal eye development, myopic children need full time correction.

Visual Stress is a perceptual processing condition that causes reading difficulties, headaches and visual problems from exposure to patterns in text, such as lines of text. Visual Stress is linked to dyslexia and similar visual learning difficulties. Sufferers experience print distortion and fatigue when reading.
Visual Stress is also known as Meares-Irlen syndrome, after the two researchers who first discovered the connection between white page glare and reading difficulties. The severity of these symptoms can vary from person to person, with approximately 20% of the population suffering to some degree.
Symptoms can include: Movement of print, misreading of text, losing place when reading, eye rubbing..anything reading releated which is not always due to a prescripton.
