Beyond assessing visual acuity, we examine various aspects of your eye health, including eye pressure, peripheral vision, and overall ocular function. By addressing these factors, we can identify underlying conditions and provide early intervention to maintain your eye health for the long run.

Discover the Future of Eye Care

Spectralis® by Heidelberg OCT

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) has been considered a game-changer in the early detection of Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration.

Our Spectralis® by Heidelberg OCT obtains clear and detailed scans of the retina allowing diagnosis and monitoring of numerous retinal conditions which would otherwise may be overlooked.

This powerful machine is quickly becoming the gold standard for detecting early glaucoma as changes to the nerve fibre layers can be picked up much earlier than from a visual field test or any other OCT system. Other OCT devices can only capture a bundle of nerve layers and may therefore miss some macular degeneration, because one layer can mask the deterioration in adjacent layers. We are proud to have this device at our eye clinic and offer this service to our patients.

One in two cases of sight loss can be avoided. Early detection of miniscule changes in the eye can identify Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Glaucoma to allow for early treatment to take place and save the patient’s vision.

Visionix 120+

Our Optometrists employ the Visionix VX120+ to perform a non-invasive ultrasonic scan of the front of the eye. This scan will take multiple, objective measurements and will pinpoint narrow-angle glaucoma, corneal thickness and topography, cataracts, other defects and will complete an automated prescription check. It can even detect any corneal defects that may affect night vision.

Zeiss Recording Digital Slit Lamp

Our Zeiss digital slit lamp biomicroscope boasts superior optics and takes high resolution images of the different segments of the eye. These images are used for monitoring and are a helpful visual aid during the practitioner patient discussion. Images are captured digitally and can be shared with Consultant Ophthalmologists if a referral is necessary and can show objective before and after results of a treatment.

Intraocular Pressure Measurement

We have revolutionised the way we measure intra-ocular pressures, moving beyond the traditional ‘puff of air’ test to deliver consistent and reliable results.

Unlike the conventional method used by many opticians, our approach involves using the state-of-the-art ‘Icare’ tonometer. With this advanced technology, there’s no need for the uncomfortable puff of air, making it particularly beneficial for individuals with sensitive eyes. Not only is the ‘Icare’ tonometer highly accurate, but it is also self-calibrating and incredibly portable, ensuring convenience and reliability throughout the examination process.

We understand the importance of considering corneal thickness, as it significantly impacts the accuracy of pressure readings. Neglecting this crucial factor can lead to false high-pressure results when using the traditional puff of air method. Our team of specialist Glaucoma Consultants considers the corneal thickness data to calculate your true eye pressure, ensuring precise and comprehensive evaluation.

Do you provide an NHS Sight Test?

The NHS provides sight tests. Usually, every one to two years for children, people aged over 60, and those with some medical conditions such as diabetes or a family history of glaucoma, and other specific criteria such as receiving certain benefits.

This NHS sight test will NOT include our additional advanced scans which are beyond the scope of an NHS funded exam, you can however choose to upgrade which majority of our patients do.

We accept the NHS contribution towards the standard professional fee of our Advanced Eye Test. Ask about the details when you request a consultation.

We believe that while the NHS sight test may be sufficient for a minority of patients, most patients, including children under 16 and every adult, would benefit from the in-depth health checks that the additional scans and tests provide.

For example, the Spectralis® OCT can identify or rule out optic nerve swelling which may present as headaches in children and adults alike.
