Introducing: Sachin Patel, BSc (Hons) MCOptom

Opticians Insights

We’d like to get to know you all a bit better, and what better way to start than to tell you a little something about ourselves – starting with our optometrist and director, Sachin Patel!

Sachin

Sachin Patel graduated from Cardiff University and passed his professional qualifying exam first time under the stewardship of award winning Buchanan Optometrist in Kent.

Thereafter, he was employed as the sole resident optometrist at Dollond and Aitchison and then did a stint at Boots Opticians on Wigmore Street.

Whilst on Wigmore Street he consulted for over ten years and thousands of patients and their eyes benefited from his expertise. During those years, he was responsible for all the eye health problems, complex prescriptions and contact lenses fitting of his patients.

His ability to problem solve comes from his attention to patient needs, and he uses both his clinical skills and his listening ability to build great relationships with his patients.

He also is one of a few optometrists who has an active interest in spectacle lens dispensing; this has served his patients well as he can recommend spectacle lenses to suit a patient’s needs during the eye examination.

As he developed his specialist clinical skills working alongside Consultant ophthalmologists on Harley Street, Wimpole Street, St Johns and St Elizabeth Hospital, he has been able to understand the eye health pathways from high street to hospital that patients may need to follow.

His understanding of the processes and links between his care and any care that might be provided by the hospital enables him to reassure patients, reducing their anxiety and ensuring that patients are only referred when necessary, reducing unnecessary costs for the NHS.

Sachin has passed his minor eye diseases (MECs) training which allows him to provide within the community a service that has been traditionally provided at the hospital. This helps to shorten any waits his patients have for appointments and allows them to receive their treatment from a familiar and trusted face.

He is now working towards becoming qualified as an Independent Prescriber, which will allow him to prescribe medicines to treat eye disease, broadening the range of treatment he will be able to offer even further.

Inside Safarian & Simon

His time on Wigmore Street showed him there was a real need to improve treatment for Dry eyes , when he acquired his own practice he was able to put in place highly effective strategies to help patients with Dry Eye issues.

His new practice is equipped with hospital grade diagnostics. And just to reassure you, in case you’re worried about these tests – he makes sure to trial them all on himself and his family first!

Outside of work he has a young family with a three-year-old boy to keep him busy and amused! In his spare time, he is an active sports follower and a wishful Arsenal fan. He is a self-confessed foodie and as his wife puts it-a bit of a chatter-box!
